Pampering readers with uplifting substance

Bonnier Publications: Readers of the Danish version of Science Illustrated are now getting more for their money. A special issue dedicated to the Higgs particle is the first in a series of digital-only publications that are intended to pamper the magazine's subscribers.

"After Higgs" is the title of the 24-page special issue, to which only digital subscribers of Denmark's version of Science Illustrated have access. The idea is to publish a special digital issue on a scientific theme four times annually. The special issue will assemble the best articles about the topic in one publication that can be read on computers or tablets.

"Our survival as a magazine depends on satisfied subscribers, so we're quite happy to pamper them. Access to material such as special digital issues is a bonus, for subscribers only. In future, we plan to significantly develop the package we offer to subscribers," explains editor-in-chief Sebastian Relster of Science Illustrated.

As soon as a special issue is available, subscribers receive a so-called 'push notification' on their smartphones and tablets informing them of the current theme.

"It's a sort of service notification to subscribers to let them know when their special issues are available," Relster says.
